Design
Reflection
After doing the sketches and creating my brand identity, I started to design the service from low fidelity wireframes to prepare for usability tests.
Key takeaways
Next Steps
Never-ending iteration: I have learned that iteration is a key proceess to innovation.
Importance of user testing: As I was doing more and more testing, I was able to find advanced ideas and solutions throughout deeper understanding of users’ perspectives.
Storytelling & Deliverability: I noticed that having a feasible and realistic storytelling is a key component for improving a clear and relative deliverability and higher understanding for users.
Expand the design system to be prepared for development
Develop further features and adding more details in designs (Card detail and adjustment pages etc.)
Thrid round of userbility testing with Hi-fi prototype - to discover how all design and information are efficiently and clearly itereated

Vaccine Genie is a Hassle-Free Universal Vaccine Record System with AI-enhanced Auto Entry and Translation, country-specific vaccine advice, frictionless sharing, and Encrypted data on personal devices is auto synced to our cloud infrastructure.
Vaccines are widely used medical interventions and authenticatable vaccine records are required for a broad range of activities in modern society. The lack of reliable, portable vaccine records is a significant pain point for international students coming to the US, expats who live and/or work in different countries, and immigrants or refugees.

Vaccine Genie
Hassle-Free Universal Vaccine Records
An easy service to always carry your vaccination information with you
Problem
As a Korean born in Indonesia, I encountered the disappearance of paper vaccination records upon moving to Korea. This resulted in significant challenges for my parents due to the absence of vaccination records. Moreover, upon relocating to the United States in 2023, I faced the inconvenience of receiving unnecessary vaccinations due to the missing vaccination history.
Vaccine information scattered
Lack of 'All-in-One' Vaccine Shot Records
1
Time & money are being spent tracking old vaccine records
Hassle of Immunization Verification
2
Translation bottlenecks in medical practice
Medical professionals also spend significant time compiling vaccine records

Discover
In order to understand users’ behaviors and motivations for vaccine records system, we conducted 23 user interviews at the beginning of the process.
Qualitative Research
Qualitative Research
23 Interviewees
We surveyed 23 English and Chinese speakers in the US and Taiwan, ranging from 26 to 70 years old: Do you have your vaccine shot records all in one place?
All responded 'No' when asked if they had their vaccine shot records all in one place.
1 - 2 times a year
vaccine-related issues
Wasted Time/Money to get shots or proof of immunity
All would need to be comfortable with either personal computer, websites and/or mobile apps as an alternative to paper-based records.
100% Experienced Health risks
Consequences of Disconnected Vaccine Shot Records. Below are examples:
Thought had tetanus shot recently but did not
Unaware of needed shots based on personal and/or travel health risks
Do you have your vaccine shot records all in one place?
Are your vaccine records easily accessible to you?
What difficulties have you encountered in locating or providing your vaccine records?
In what language are your vaccine records currently documented?
What suggestions do you have for improving vaccine record management?
If you are an international student, please share any difficulties you encountered during the vaccine immunization verification process.
Please describe any challenges you faced when translating vaccine shot records to English, or vice versa.
If you have children, how have you managed their vaccination records for travel purposes?

Key interview questions that we asked:
Competitive Analysis
In analyzing the four most popular healthcare provider databases or services, I found that NONE of them provide language support or auto data entry features to assist users in translation and managing their records.
Health Center Support
All-in-one Tool
Community Assistance
Health centers provide translation and form filling services, improving access to healthcare for diverse language speakers and enhancing patient outcomes.
Users need access to all-in-one digital tools for image storage, recognition, transcription, and translation of medical documents.
It's crucial for users to share their medical documents with community support from multilingual friends and family for inclusive healthcare access.
Key Insights
I created an empathy map to scope out, then created an information architecture and user flow in order to deeply understand each step of tracking and recording vaccine information. By doing so, I was able to find a room for improvement.

Based on the interviews, I analyzed the current user flow of a hassle-free vaccine system process. I have noticed that the whole post- process must be handled with external platforms.
Based on the interviews and research, I created an empathy map to organize and display users’ perspectives to understand their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, pain points, and insights to innovate opportunities.

I streamlined the step to find a relative job post based on users’ personal taste by implementing a quick search and scan QR code. Also, once the physical vaccine infos are updated, it will be automatically edited by user.

Takeaways
We have already gone through alpha and beta testing phases.
Vaccine Genie Team are also gearing up for demo releases on both Android and iOS soon expected in the second week of June 2024.
Additionally, work is underway to develop a website using the same design system.

Key takeaways
Understanding diverse stakeholders in healthcare: Acknowledging the unique needs of patients, payers, and other stakeholders fosters future collaboration.
Rethinking rapid agile systems: I learned about the environment of numerous legal constraints and considerations for safety prevalent in the healthcare sector.
Cultural and linguistic accessibility: Based on these values, I can focus on overcoming language barriers and addressing diverse cultural needs.

Usability Testing
Iteration
In order to understand how those main features are understandable and efficient for users, I have conducted three rounds of usability testings. Thankfully, I was able to find the major confusion among the main feature that I can improve further.
Key Findings / Opportunities from usability testings:
Providing too much infomration is not helping users to find the right information. Rather throwing all information in one page, it is important to organize and present them in orders and highlight significant reports.
I need to minimize and focus on the main information rather than showing all options in one page. Provide customized options for users to increase users control and freedom to choose and find their own needs.
The graph was too confusing for users. No clear information deliverability.
